is Australia moral?
It's difficult to give a yes or no answer as to whether or not Australia is moral. Each state has separate rules on how they can deal with things such as homeless people.
My overall answer is similar to my answer for my justice week reflection; the way we live makes it hard for every decision to be moral. We know that just 100 years ago Australia was not a moral place what with it being full of convicts and the mistreatment of aboriginal people. Obviously we have improved large amounts since then but the racism and prejudices of our ancestors is still imbedded in many people's teaching (however it's not as apparent).More people are becoming aware of issues such as homelessness and are therefore attempting to make change (places such as Front Yard and The Big Issue). When we visited those two places we were made aware of the fact that the government doesn't put enough effort into issues regarding the homeless. This wasn't much of a surprise because it's easy to understand why other things would be prioritised over that (as cruel as it sounds). I think that the government is prepared to help the citizens who are born into privilege because those citizens can give the government the most money and at the end of the day that's all they care about.
So is Australia moral? Probably not, but that doesn't mean it's immoral.
